The first part of transforming underneath the house is C.O.M.P.L.E.T.E!!! I'm loving it so much and it took a lot less time to do than I thought - only about three weekends. (Click on the photos to see them in all their high resolution amazingness!)
This was how it looked just after we moved in. The lower part of underneath the house is where we hang out the washing and where the dog houses are and it was horrible and dirty and muddy when it rained. It was generally just not a very nice place to hang out.
And THIS was how it looked just a few weeks ago. All the building materials saved from the demolition of the granny flat were being stored under there and everything that was previously stored IN the granny flat was also in there. What a mess! As you could imagine, it drove me crazy. A few weeks on though and I'm glad to report we sold EVERYTHING from the granny flat demo on Gumtree - the windows, doors, weatherboards, the lot. Gave us a few thousand cash and our space and sanity back. Win!
And now, with about 3 tonnes of tumbled river rock, it's an even surface that's clean and stays that way even when it rains. I also got tumbled river rock, as opposed to gravel or blue metal so it's a little kinder on bare feet. I'm sure the doggies appreciate it too.
It's quite a nice, cool, breezy spot under there, especially during summer. I'm thinking with a few chairs and tables, maybe a lounge, it could actually now be a nice place to hang out, read a book. Josh can definitely hang out there with his mates and he's probably more likely to use that punching bag more often.
I'm going to take a couple of weeks off from the next stage of this project which will be the back part of underneath the house. Those three old Landcruisers parked there, which are part of Jansen's restoration project, won't be moved to his new property until early August and they're in the way where they are now. Might think about doing some decorating in the meantime and just enjoying the space.
