Flooring Options
Just a few weeks out and I STILL can't make a decision on flooring!! The Boral Silkwood, which I do love, it just on the cusp of my budget so I'm still looking for other options.
This is the Genisis Bamboo Floating Floor. Stained in "Equinox" it's almost the perfect match, I'm just not sure about the durability and the look. For me, it borders on looking like laminex and we did a bit of a key scratch test on it and it scratched a little too easily. Having said that, so did the Silkwood.
Arrrrrgh!!!

When we were building the flooring was a tough decision too. We went with bamboo. It is a lot more durable than wood and is a lot more friendlier to the enviroment- 2 years to grow as apposed to 15 years. Its also cheaper!
ReplyDeleteOhh are you happy with it? How long have you had it installed? I'm really struggling with this decision. xx
DeleteYeah we love it! It has a great look to it and lots of people comment on how great it looks. I don't find it to scratch very much, but we are a shoes off house and have soft pads under all our furniture. Good luck! Xo
ReplyDeleteYes, we'll definitely be a shoes off house too. The bamboo is a good $20/m2 cheaper than Boral Silkwood and we have 163m2 to cover, so that would be a significant saving, particularly given I'm right at the edge of my budget.
DeleteI really appreciate hearing other people's first person accounts of things...it really helps! xx
What is your budget?
ReplyDeleteMost builders quote on tas Oak as standard due to it's heardwearing/popularity/price. But I ended up selecting something that was $16 per m2 cheaper and it ended up being the cheapest selection in store!
It's pretty tight!! About $8500 for $163m2 (excluding wastage, so I really should say 180m2) so that's like $42/m2. Not much hey? Having said that I can get pretty good deals through contacts and will do the installation myself along with a couple of handy friends :-))
DeleteIt's still a challenge!! xx
The one I just got was the cheapest hardwood ( it's hard, like an 8 ? ) .. at $50/m2 ...

Maybe you could check it out & cut a deal somewhere?
Ohhhhh that's so, so purty!!! So it was a floating floor? Do you mind telling me what brand? xx
DeleteNot sure?? But if you google it, TONNES of links come back, so perhaps ask for it by name, or search for it locally.
DeleteIt's both. We need REAL board and floating due to the nature of our reno, to ensure an even floor throughout, and this delivers..
Good Luck! x
PS: Love, love, love your typography cushions!!!
